The Umbral Ascent
The world under the picture. Collaboration, armor, and the climb out of the umbral dark.
The story
A jaded creature of the Underworld named Kaziel, ignited by a glimpse of an unjustly condemned soul, undertakes a perilous ascent through the monster-guarded realms of Sin — gaining painful fragments of humanity only to face the ultimate sacrifice for her redemption.
Kaziel was shadow given form, ancient beyond measure, his essence woven from the cold embers and echoing silence of the Underworld’s deepest trenches. Then Lyra fell into his lightless realm like a shard of misplaced dawn. Her fall was not the usual reaping; it was an error, a tear in the fabric of judgment.
Silas, the grey Adjudicator at the Threshold, consulted the infinite ledgers. The Law was immutable. But the Path Ascendant exists, though rarely trod — seven levels mirroring mortal Sin, guarded, lethal; the summit gateway; and the rumoured price.
“I claim the Path,” Kaziel stated.
The climb · expansions
Seven branches
Each level is a boss, and each boss is an expansion — its own branch of the storyline, written in the bible. The built game runs wider still: the Hellforge, the trials, the gauntlet and the instanced rooms all sit inside the climb.
The Murky Mire
Guarded by Asmodea, the Succubus Queen.
The Echoing Caverns
Guarded by Gula the Insatiable.
The Shifting Gilded Maze
Guarded by Aurum, Mammon’s Treasurer.
The Endless Ashen Plains
Guarded by Acedia, Herald of Belphegor.
The Jagged Peaks
Guarded by Irax the Unchained.
The Mirrored Desert
Guarded by Invidia, the Leviathan’s Eye.
The Obsidian Spire
Guarded by Superbia, Shadow of Lumiel.

The summit
The Gate of Ascension
Balance required an equal, opposite exchange. To propel Lyra fully into the light, Kaziel had to offer the fragile, nascent soul forged in the crucible of the Sins — everything that now made him more than a creature of shadow and fire.
Sacrifice complete. Purpose fulfilled. Or so he thought — a small, warm, real spark remained, impossibly preserved. An ember that refused to be extinguished.
Descend with the spark
Carry the ember into darkness. Guardian of the Ember — protecting a fragile light from those who would extinguish or exploit it.
Ascend towards answers
Follow the path of light. The Ascendant Outcast — a creature of shadow in unwelcoming heavens, hunted, seeking the origin of the spark.

World
The Hellforge, the chains, the climb. One continuity bible for the story and the game.
The bible sets the frame — seven realms of Sin, the summit gate, the price. Two years of building have added to it: the Hellforge and its Colossus, the trials, the gauntlet, and the instanced rooms that fill the climb. The frame held; the world got larger.

The voice
“The chains still bite. They drank souls in the dark… and they are thirsty still. I will break them… or they will drag me back to Hell.”
“Worm. You crawl onto my stage uninvited. You are not ready. Hell will teach you that.”
